City is asking promenade users for input on Sea Point sea wall this week

The City of Cape Town’s Coastal Management branch, in partnership with Pegasys Consulting, will be conducting a face to face survey to better understand the value and benefits that the Sea Point Promenade adds to the lives of Capetonians and visitors. This survey will inform a socio-economic evaluation of potential options for the refurbishment or upgrade of the Sea Point Seawall. As of today, 27 November 2024 residents can expect to see individuals conducting this survey along the promenade over the next four days to gain valuable input from the promenade users themselves.

‘We encourage the public to please take a few minutes while visiting the promenade this week to complete the survey and share your thoughts. Your input will help us understand the value the promenade adds to your life and what you enjoy most about it. To keep protecting the promenade; nearby infrastructure and neighbourhoods, the seawall needs a level of refurbishment to safeguard Cape Town’s coastline. While regular maintenance will continue, we are currently investigating potential upgrade options for the seawall and the associated impacts. Your feedback will therefore be highly appreciated’, said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.

The Sea Point seawall stretches 4,8 km and includes sections that are approximately 100 years old. This iconic structure plays a vital role in tourism, sports, culture; community upliftment and supports many SMMEs while protecting infrastructure; property, and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
